π’ Israel has bombed and devastated Gazaβs sewage and sanitation infrastructure, and now deliberately blocks Palestinians from the landfills, machinery and essential supplies needed to contain the resulting public health catastrophe.
One consequence is a massive rat and pest infestation, with Palestinians, including children, being bitten in their sleep.
Four in five sewage pumping stations are not functioning, with some 40,000 cubic meters of untreated sewage flowing each day. By July, 60% of Gazaβs population was living within 10 meters of sewage or human waste and more than 900,000 people were exposed to garbage accumulating in residential areas, according to UN OCHA.
Rodents or pests were reported at 81% of displacement sites surveyed in April, affecting roughly 1.45 million Palestinians.
Both of Gazaβs sanitary landfills lie beyond the Israeli-imposed βYellow Line,β and the UN says access remains banned by Israel. Israel also requires approval and blocks entry of machinery and spare parts needed to remove garbage and rubble, while engine oils, pest-control chemicals and other essential supplies remain severely restricted.
Israel permitted 3 tonnes of rodenticide and 3,000 liters of pesticide into Gaza in May, but the UN said pest-control efforts remained limited and a full response requires sustained supplies, heavy equipment and access to the landfills Israel continues to block with Gazaβs sanitation system having completely collapsed.

These victims were killed on November 22, 2023, during a devastating Israeli airstrike that completely leveled a densely populated residential block in al-Sabra neighborhood, claiming the lives of approximately 308 people in total. Because israeli intense military attacks and severe equipment shortages blocked emergency access to the site, the bodies remained trapped under the concrete rubble for over two and a half years. The collective burial finally took place at the Baptist Cemetery following an arduous, days-long recovery operation by the Gaza Civil Defense, drawing thousands of mourners to honor the victims, who included over 40 children and 30 women.

What I saw was a catastrophe in every sense of the word. A one year old child weighing no more than 4.5 kilograms, suffering from severe malnutrition that has exhausted his tiny body. Holding him in my arms was one of the hardest moments I have experienced⦠a body so fragile and extremely thin that it is difficult to describe.
Maher has been lying in the hospital for days after losing four of his siblings, and now his own life is also at risk. His small body has been weakened by illness and malnutrition, his skin is burned from the sun, and he needs intensive care and constant attention.
We will try to provide him with urgent help and provide the milk, diapers, and care he needs, but our ability to save him depends on you and your support. This child cannot wait⦠he needs immediate intervention before it becomes too late.

I feel like I'm literally losing my mind. What we are living through in Gaza has become unbearable.
The bombing never stops not for a single moment. Explosions surround us everywhere: in the streets, between homes, and above our heads. As of this moment, more than 20 people have been killed, while the number of injured continues to rise. No one knows who will be next, or whether the next strike will be the one that ends their life.
Hospitals have returned to emergency operations, yet they can barely cope with the growing number of casualties. Ambulances never stop moving, families never stop crying, and the world continues to watch.
We have reached a point where death feels closer than life. We no longer make plans for tomorrow we simply try to survive the next few minutes. We fall asleep to the sound of airstrikes and wake up to news of more massacres, never knowing if we will live to see the end of the day.
I am writing these words from the heart of Gaza, and I do not know if this will be my last message. We are exhausted from pleading, exhausted from calling on the world, and exhausted from waiting for someone to act.
Stop this madness. Stop the war. What is happening here has gone beyond every limit of humanity, and civilians have nothing left to lose except the lives they are desperately trying to hold on to.

This is devastating.
Iβm not sure whether those in the United States who send bombs to Israel, whether they identify as pro-life or pro-choice, consider israelβs killing of a fetus in its motherβs womb a tragedy.
Yesterday at 1:00 a.m., Israel carried out a strike that killed a father, a pregnant mother, and their child.
It was not until sunrise that rescuers found the fetus, torn from its motherβs womb, beneath the rubble.
So the question must be asked: Does this fetus count as a victim? Does the killing of a pregnant mother count as a tragedy? Or are these lives excluded from the moral concern when israel is the murderer?

We woke up to a major catastrophe in Gaza. Last night, the medicine storage warehouse inside Al Aqsa Hospital was bombed!!
The warehouse was dedicated to kidney patients and was one of the last major medicine storage facilities remaining in Gaza. Medical supplies are running out completely. Over the past few weeks, hospitals across Gaza have issued urgent warnings that their kidney units could soon shut down because essential medicines were beginning to run out. Then, just hours before dawn, the medicine warehouse itself was bombed.
Since when has medical treatment become a weapon against us? In what religion, or under what law anywhere in the world, are medicines treated this way? How can the medicines that patients depend on to stay alive become a target?
Gazaβs healthcare system is collapsing faster than you can imagine. We are literally on the brink of a massive humanitarian and medical catastrophe. Medicines are disappearing, hospitals are losing the ability to treat patients, and the attacks have not stopped for days. No one knows how much worse this collapse will become.
